IAF to create new weapon systems branch, says Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari

The Government has approved the creation of a Weapon System branch for officers in the Indian Air Force (IAF) which will bring all weapon systems operators of the force under one roof. This is the first time since independence that a new operational branch is being created, said IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal (ACM) V. R. Chaudhari on October 8, 2022. “This will essentially be for manning of four specialised streams of Surface to Surface missiles, Surface to Air Missiles, Remotely Piloted Aircraft and weapon system operators in twin and multi crew aircraft,” ACM Chaudhari said addressing the Air Force Day parade to mark the 90th Air Force Day celebrations at Chandigarh. “Creation of this branch would result in savings of over Rs 3400 Crores due to reduced expenditure on flying training.” 90 years! 90 years of Excellence IAF: Transforming for the Future. By PTI NEW DELHI: India should comprehend the situation along its unsettled western and northern borders as a 'two-front' contingency and prepare for it accordingly, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari said on Sunday, referring to the possible challenge from a collusive military threat from China and Pakistan. The Chief of Air Staff said India could be attacked on all fronts, starting from military standoffs to information manipulation and blackouts in the future and its security doctrines and capabilities will have to cater to such possibilities. To a specific question on whether Russian aggression against Ukraine could encourage China to take more aggressive posturing along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), he said the effect of global events and geopolitical developments on India's engagement with Beijing are being assessed continually across wide-ranging domains "at all levels." "As a nation, we need to identify our immediate and future threats accurately so that necessary capability responses can be developed to counter them," he said.
