Ignoring any potential trade-in deals or other ongoing sales, there's still quite a discrepancy between these two devices. Samsung's Galaxy S23 with 128GB of storage is priced at $800, meanwhile, the Pixel 6a comes in at an incredible $449. Of course, $799 vs $449 shouldn't be this close. Just to get an idea of where the Pixel 6a sits on the market, at the time of this writing, Google's budget-friendly option Both Samsung and Google have implemented a 6.1-inch AMOLED display, with the Galaxy S23 gaining an edge with its variable refresh rate that can be set to automatically adjust between 48Hz and 120Hz. Unfortunately, this isn't the case with the Pixel 6a, as it's "stuck" with a 60Hz refresh rate. It's not surprising considering Google's strategy, but it would've been nice to have a 90Hz panel at least. The Google Pixel 6a is a very good phone that might rehash years-old camera hardware, but it updates the line's computational photography to keep things competitive. It also adds Pixel 6 and 6 Pro power, water resistance, a premium, playful design, and runs stock Android. Its main competition is the Nothing Phone (1) and Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, and if you're in the US, where the Phone (1) isn't currently available, then it's probably the best option for the price. Google also revisits its playful Pixel 6 styling, for a two-tone, black bar rear, and the phone's frame is a rich, blasted metal. With some competition like the Swipe through the 6a's interface, though, and if you've used a phone with a high refresh-rate screen, you'll notice that the 6a's screen is a bit choppier – after all, it runs at 60Hz – half that of the 120Hz (Image credit: Basil Kronfli / Digital Camera World) If you like the While the 6a gets a premium metal frame, which is rounded to transition smoothly into the curved back of the phone, the back panel is plastic, not glass, so doesn't feel quite as rich as that of its pricier siblings. At the base of the Pixel 6a is a USB-C port and a loudspeaker, on the right side are power and volume buttons, there's a punch hole camera centered at the top of the screen, and on the reverse is a camera band with a wide and ultra-wide camera within. There's no doubt about it, the Pixel 6a looks fun, it's playful, and it feels good for the price. Google has design check...

But I think on a higher level, the Pixel 6a appeals to me because it addresses two seemingly contradictory truths about my personality — 1) I demand the finer things in life and 2) I am a notorious cheapskate. The bourbon I drink must have a rich, complex flavor that can only come from oak-aging and expert craftsmanship. But if you think I'm paying that much for a drink, you're nuts. I eat at the finest restaurants and stay at the poshest resorts... in my price range, which I assure you has ceiling so low, you've got to crouch to fit in under it. I dress for success... so long as we define "success" as "bought at significant markdown." In other words, the things I enjoy had better exude quality, but not so much quality that the price tag cotains too many zeroes. But if money were the only object here, we'd be singing the praises of any one of a number of forgettable sub-$200 Android phones. The Pixel 6a's price is so appealing precisely because of all the value you're getting for your dollar. You may be shelling out $449 for this phone, but you're getting far more in return. Google Pixel 6a: The cameras are key Take the cameras, which produce the kind of photos you'd expect to see from much more expensive flagships. The hardware itself is nothing to write home about — Google uses a 12.2MP sensor for the main camera and a second 12MP shooter for the ultrawide lens — but the Pixel 6a is able to take advantage of the same photo processing tools available to other Pixel device...
