The inaugural edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) kick-started in the year 2016. The T20 extravaganza has been a breeding ground for young and upcoming talent to showcase their might on the big stage. Also, one has witnessed many top-drawer international stars feature in the marquee event and stamp their authority on the cricket field. A total of seven editions of the T20 carnival have been played thus far and Islamabad United are the most successful team in the tournament, clinching the title on two occasions. They won the first edition and then stood victorious in the 2018 season. In the previous edition, Lahore Qalandars under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi defeated Multan Sultans in the final showdown to grab the silverware for the very first time. Mohammad Hafeez was the hero of the summit clash for his incredible all-round performance while Multan’s skipper Mohammad Rizwan was the Player of the Series for his sensational batting displays throughout the tournament. The previous seasons of the Pakistan Super League have witnessed teams giving their all on the cricket field and not much has been there to separate the sides. Thus, one has seen some exhilarating cricket and Lahore Qalandars will have their task cut out as they bid to defend their crown in PSL 2023 and become the first-ever PSL franchise to do so. Shaheen Afridi has been handed the PSL trophy for the second time in two consecutive years and his teammates now join him in the celebration with the trophy. Shaheen Afridi, the skipper of Lahore Qalandars starts by thanking the almighty and he credits his support staff and scouts at first to bring in some amazing talents to strengthen the team that has helped the team to defend the title. He adds that the game was a topsy-turvy one with both the team gaining momentum in different moments of this game and thanks to the almighty that we have won this game. He also adds that the aggression comes naturally as he is a fast bowler and he wanted to slog a few deliveries early on and it clicked for him and the team.
