The oval should be rounded rather than egg-shaped, almost like a circle that has been smashed from the top. Step 2: Draw Humps on Both Sides The next thing you should do is draw one hump coming from either side of the pumpkin. Make sure that the top and bottom connect but don’t go over the top of the center hump. Step 3: Draw One More Hump on Both Sides Now, draw another hump on each side of the humps you just drew. A fun Jack-o-Lantern drawing needn’t be complicated, but can certainly be more than a flat looking circle too. All it takes to make a pumpkin look a little more dimensional is to place the stem inside a bit and add about 3 curved lines radiating out from it. Suddenly your pumpkin looks more like a ball than a circle. If your students are learning about the Elements of Art, this is a good example of how a few lines can make a flat circle Shape look like it has Form. You may have noticed that all of the tutorials on this website have a dashed vertical line and horizontal line running through the center of each step. If students make their owncentered lines on their ownpaper, before drawing, they will have an easy reference to follow. For instance, as seen in Step 1 below, this sketch starts with large circle that fills up more than the bottom half of the paper. It’s easy to do when students can see where that middle guide line falls.
