Bangalore Election Result 2023: India’s information technology capital Bengaluru saw ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning a majority of the seats and the opposition Congress winning two seats. There are seven constituencies in the Bengaluru Urban region. In the 2018 Karnataka election, BJP candidate S.R. Vishwanath won the Yelahanka Assembly seat after defeating JD(S) candidate A M Hanumanthegowda. Congress candidate Krishna Byregowda won the Byatarayanapura Assembly seat in 2018 after securing 114964 votes. Yelahanka MLA ensures residents near toll get free passage in Bengaluru

Express News Service BENGALURU: Residents of the posh residential complex at Marasandra, located within 2 km of a toll plaza, had to pay Rs 70 whenever they went to Yelahanka through this toll gate. This is in violation of the rules which state that those residing within a radius of 5 km of the toll gates on National and State highways do not have to pay the charge. Following the intervention of Yelahanka MLA SR Vishwanath, around 3,500 residents were given free access from December 26. Residents of Provident Welworth City (PWC) are relieved as they have to use the Kadthanamala toll gate on Doddaballapur main road, on the state highway to enter Yelahanka, and return home. They have been paying Rs 70 both ways in cash or Rs 45 for FasTag users, residents told TNIE. The toll system is a PPP model with the state government partnering with Ramalinga constructions. “The contractor permitted villagers within the 5-km radius to avail free access. We, who stay in apartment complexes, were told it does not apply to us. However, there is no such rule against apartment dwellers, and we have vehemently opposed it. A major dharna was stage, but the contractor did not relent,” said a resident. On Saturday, representatives of RWA met the MLA, who directed the contractor that no toll charge should be collected from PWC residents, said an association member. The election saw a voter turnout of 73.19 per cent, which is the highest ever recorded in the history of elections in Karnataka. The tenure of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end on May 24, 2023. The last assembly elections were held in May 2018. In May 2018 elections, a coalition of Janata Dal (Secular) and Indian National Congress formed the state government, with HD Kumaraswamy becoming the Chief Minister. Lokayukta court summons Yelahanka MLA in assets case

The Special Lokayukta Court on Tuesday ordered issue of summons to Yelahanka MLA S R Vishwanath of the BJP after taking cognisance of charges against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Judge N K Sudhindra Rao observed there was no impediment for sanction as the abuse of office pertained to Vishwanath’s earlier term as MLA and not the present. Stating that it was a fit case for taking cognisance, the judge directed Vishwanath to appear in the court on July 29. The Lokayukta police on August 4, 2012 had submitted a final report stating that Vishwanath possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The Lokayukta police had conducted an investigation into the matter after the Lokayukta court referred to them a private complaint filed by V Shashidhar in December 2011. While the total assets belonging to Vishwanath and his family and the benaami property was assessed to be Rs 9.11 crore and expenditure was Rs 3.50 crore, his income was Rs 4.87 crore from salary, business and agricultural sources. The total amount of excess assets is said to be Rs 7.74 crore. Most of Vishwanath’s property was gained after 2000, according to the police. Among the assets detailed by the police were 100 acres of land in Yelahanka, Anekal and Gowribidanur purchased at Rs 1.85 crore, house worth Rs 2.02 crore and four residential and commercial buildings in and around Bangalore purchased at a cost of Rs 64 lakh.
