Zomato has rebranded its membership programme from Zomato Gold to Zomato Pro. Zomato Pro comes with exclusive offers, quicker delivery options and a money-back guarantee programme. Starting from August 1, all the existing Zomato Gold users across ten countries will automatically get upgraded to Zomato Pro. Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal said, “We have 50 per cent more partner restaurants on Zomato Pro than what we had on Zomato Gold – across dining out and delivery.” Apart from additional discounts and perks, he said “Members will also get priority delivery. For now, users can only ask to be notified once the membership programme is available on the app. Users with the Pro Plus membership at present will receive a three-month complimentary Zomato Gold membership. This decision comes less than a month after CEO Deepinder Goyal teased the return of Gold. The service was launched with an introductory price of Rs 149 for three months by the listed foodtech startup. Zomato’s revamped Gold membership programme, which it rolled out in January, is showing initial signs of success with the foodtech unicorn recovering some of its lost ground from archrival Swiggy. A report by HSBC Global Research indicates that Gold, which was relaunched at an introductory price of Rs 149 for three months, has enabled Zomato to eat into Swiggy’s market share in this quarter (Q4FY23). “Zomato has started to reclaim some of the market share it lost in H2CY22, thanks to the launch of Zomato Gold. We expect it to continue to gain market share from Swiggy, led by an aggressive go-to-market strategy,” HSBC stated in its report.
